Theatre Converse presents “The Dragon” (Friday October 4, 7:30pm) Journey back to 1919 and join a band of traveling street performers as they share their fantastical and hilarious tale in which a Princess must find a way to save herself from becoming a tasty treat for a very hungry dragon.Theatre Converse presents this family friendly adaption of the Abbey Theater Irish Folklore Wonder Play, The Dragon. This 50 minute production filled with myth, folklore and legends is perfect for all ages! Children 12 and under are FREE!Original script by Lady Gregory; Adapted and Directed by Melissa Owens

Parents Night Out at Generation Kid Strong (Friday October 4, 6:00pm-10:00pm) Bring your kids over to GKS to enjoy a few hours out of the town this Friday from 6pm-10pm.  Ages 3 and up. They will be playing games, exercising, making crafts, having a glow stick dance party and finishing up with a movie. They provide drinks, pizza and one snack. (children can bring their own snacks). $10 per child.

Build a Fire Plane at Home Depot (Saturday October 5, 9:00am-12:00pm) Save the day during Fire & Safety Month and let your imagination soar as you build a fire plane. With a little help, you can learn to use a screwdriver to connect everything you’ll need to become airborne. You’ll be able to attach the wings, landing gear, adjust the tail fin, decorate the propellers with stickers and be ready to fly. All Kids Workshop attendees must be accompanied by a parent or adult at all times. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron and a commemorative pin while supplies last. Fire trucks and ambulance will be at the event as well as free food!!

Hub City Empty Bowls Soup Day 2019 (Saturday October 5, 11:00 am-3:00pm) Hub City Empty Bowls’ annual Soup Day will be Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Spartanburg Marriott. This is one of Spartanburg’s most anticipated, appreciated, and well attended charity events that raises money to feed the needy in Spartanburg. At Soup Day people select the handmade pottery bowls of their choice and donated $20 per bowl. Then they eat soup donated by the community’s leading restaurants, hear live music, bid on items in a silent auction, and enjoy the fellowship of doing good in our community. For the past several years, we have raised more than $30,000 each year and fed countless people who were not sure from where their next meal would come. Join us for a great cause.

 

Autumn Market at Scarlett’s High Cotton (Saturday October 5, 9:30am  ) Join us for our 3rd Annual Autumn Market.  This event will showcase local craft vendors, artisans, and makers. We will have over 35 vendors outside and the store will also be open with another 20 vendors inside. We truly have something for everyone!  We are now accepting vendor applications. You can also provide us with your email address and we can email it to you.We will also have awesome BBQ available for sale and delicious homemade desserts, so be sure to bring your appetite.  Our Kid’s Zone will be a fun spot to let the kids enjoy face painting, pumpkin painting, and a bounce house. And for the first time, we will have LIVE music all day at our Autumn Market.   And, of course, our favorite charity, The Spartanburg Humane Society, will be here with an adoption booth. We will even have a dog costume contest and door prize raffle, all to benefit the Spartanburg Humane Society.

 

RJ Rockers presents Rocktoberfest (Saturday, October 5th, 12pm -11pm) Rock out with a ten band line-up featuring Jupiter Coyote, High Divers, BACK 9 and more. We’ll be serving up cold brews, delicious food and fun for the whole family. A portion of the proceeds will help KNOCK HUNGER OFF ITS ROCKER benefiting The Spartanburg Soup Kitchen, TOTAL Ministries of Spartanburg County, and The Carpenter’s Table Community Outreach Center. General admission tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door after 5:00pm. VIP tickets are $125 and include delicious German-inspired fare from The Silo, unlimited beer, and drink tickets for wine and specialty cocktails.

Create Your Own Jack-O-Lantern at Cleveland Park (Saturday October 5, 11:00am-1:00pm) Hosted by Cleveland Park and In the Potter’s Hands: Join us to get your hands muddy and craft and mold your own Jack O Lantern! Everyone is welcome, all ages.  We have limited seating so please pay in advance to reserve your seat. We will provide the clay, tools, and designs to create your Jack O Lantern. The Jack O Lanterns will be about 5 to 6 inches wide or high. You also get to pick out a glaze color for your piece of pottery. depending on your creativity. This is a fun and entertaining experience to do with your friends and family.  This will be a great keepsake to treasure for years to come. We will glaze, fire, and return your finished Jack O Lantern in two weeks, leaving plenty of time to show off your creation. Be sure to join us for this fun and creative experience for the whole family! $30 per person (includes all supplies)

 

Evening Paddle with a Ranger at Croft State Park (Saturday October 5, 8:00pm-9:30pm) Join staff at Croft for an evening paddle at Croft State Park on scenic Lake Craig. During this 1.5 hour paddling trip, we will watch the sky turn from daylight, through sunset and dusk, and finally into the first stars of evening. Throughout the paddle, we will listen for owls and look for animals just starting the night shift. Space is limited. Call 864-585-1283 or visit our park office to reserve a space. Fire Department Open House (Sunday October 6, 2:00pm-5:00pm) In celebration of Fire Prevention Week, we invite you to join us for our 19th annual Fire Prevention Week Open House. We will have tours, displays, fire engines, games, and FREE food for all attendees. Children who complete 6 of 9 stations will receive a free snow cone as well. This is a great family event for your Sunday afternoon!

 

Sundays Unplugged at Chapman Cultural Center (Sunday October 6, 1:00-5:00pm) Chapman Cultural Center is open every Sunday afternoon, 1-5 p.m., to provide casual and cultural experiences for those who want to “unplug.” Spartanburg Art Museum, Spartanburg Regional History Museum, Artists’ Guild of Spartanburg, and the Student Galleries are all open with free admission. The John F. Green Spartanburg Science Center is open with a small admission fee. Family Night Out: A Knight To Remember at Headquarters Library (Tuesday, October 8, 2019, 7 – 8pm)

Join us to read fantastic knightly tales, decorate a cardboard shield, and try your hand at a match of friendly jousting against rival families. Families with children ages 0-9 are welcome. Parent participation is required for jousting.

 

October 9

Kids in the Kitchen: No-Cook Cooking at Headquarters Library (Wednesday, October 9, 2019, 10 – 11am) Homeschoolers are invited to join us for an hour of food and fun. Kids will learn how to make dishes that do not require any cooking, just imagination. Our Final Five this month will focus on Britannica School Elementary.

The Snow Queen, A FROZEN Adventure

Carlos Agudelo’s world premiere of The Snow Queen, a FROZEN Adventure will delight the entire family. Based on Hans Christian Anderson’s classic fairytale, The Snow Queen follows a young girl who saves her friend from the magic spell of the evil Wizard. Theever so popular Disney’s animated movie, FROZEN is loosely based on Anderson’s fairytale. With original choreography, an evil Wizard, dancing snow maidens, goblins and gypsies, a FROZEN castle, all underscored by melodic classical music, this ballet will enchant audiences of all ages with its powerful story of loyalty, forever friendships and the purity of an innocent heart saving the day. The Share Community Food and Art Market at Mama Sues (Saturday October 19, 9:30am-4:00pm) The Share Community Food & Art Market will feature delicious homemade food, hand made artisan crafts, and the music of some of our favorite local music makers. Evening Paddle with a Ranger at Croft State Park (Saturday October 19, 8:00pm-9:30pm) Join staff at Croft for an evening paddle at Croft State Park on scenic Lake Craig. During this 1.5 hour paddling trip, we will watch the sky turn from daylight, through sunset and dusk, and finally into the first stars of evening. Throughout the paddle, we will listen for owls and look for animals just starting the night shift. Space is limited. Call 864-585-1283 or visit our park office to reserve a space. Sundays Unplugged at Chapman Cultural Center (Sunday October 20, 1:00-5:00pm) Chapman Cultural Center is open every Sunday afternoon, 1-5 p.m., to provide casual and cultural experiences for those who want to “unplug.” Spartanburg Art Museum, Spartanburg Regional History Museum, Artists’ Guild of Spartanburg, and the Student Galleries are all open with free admission.
